The times they are a changin'

Well, I'm sure few were surprised by the Times' endorsement. But the Chicago Tribune has endorsed Barack Obama for President of the United States? Yes.

This is the very first Democrat the Tribune has ever endorsed...in 161 years. In 1872, they endorsed Independent Horace Greeley. In 1912, they endorsed Theodore Roosevelt of the the Progressive Party.

They explain, "The Tribune's decisions then were driven by outrage at inept and corrupt business and political leaders. We see parallels today."

(Yes, Obama is an Illinois senator of whom they are proud...but they endorsed Eisenhower - twice - over Illinoisian Adlai Stevenson.)

Read on.
